Millions of deaf and hard-of-hearing (DHH) individuals travel the United States each year, and as you may know, they rarely receive the critical information they need in a timely manner, if at all. Emergency alerts. Flight delays and cancellations. Gate changes. All of this information is available to hearing travelers in a number of ways at any given airport. To DHH travelers, though, it is available only to those who seek it out, and then, in only one mode: on a screen (visual paging).

Hailer Technologies has partnered with SkyTel and OAG/Back Aviation Solutions to offer your customers a unique, ADA-compliant, direct messaging service — one that deaf and hard-of-hearing travelers have requested for several years.

Our Airport Messaging Service (AMS) obtains critical information from various sources — your airport FIDS and emergency paging system, and third party sources such as airlines and vendors like OAG — determines if it affects specific traveler itineraries, and "pushes" it to the traveler when it does wherever he/she may be on airport property.

AMS also exceeds current ADA standards, and provides a far better customer service than visual paging. Knowing that information will be delivered to them, DHH travelers can grab a cup of coffee or souvenir, or take in some public art, instead of standing at the gate or in front of a visual paging display.

The Complete Solution

Our direct-to-traveler Airport Messaging Service is a turnkey solution with a number of innovative, high-tech features:

  • Wireless Messaging
    SkyTel, the premier source for wireless data and messaging services, provides wireless email, interactive two-way messaging, wireless telemetry services, and traditional text and numeric paging to customers throughout the U.S. SkyTel supplies all airport pagers and is the backbone of our wireless messaging capabilities.
  • Emergency Alerts & Security Notifications
    AMS integrates into your airport’s emergency notification systems to ensure that DHH customers are not without information on critical occasions. Our service gives you the ability to notify DHH travelers of such information, and tracks the communication—if and when messages were sent, delivered and ultimately read by those in possession of a pager.
  • Flight Information Updates
    In addition to your airport’s FIDS solution, we also offer the integration of OAG’s national database of flight information, enabling us to provide information on all or most of the nations’ daily flights. As with emergency and security-related alerts, we coordinate and manage the integration of your airport’s flight information system with our own to gain access to the local “change” information, e.g. gate changes on the ground, flight delays, etc.
  • Distribution & Collection of Pagers
    Registration for, and the distribution and collection of pagers are handled by HT staff at Hailer Technologies customer service desks, strategically placed throughout the airport. In addition to delivering messages to SkyTel pagers, service is also available to anyone with a handheld device, e.g. Blackberry,® SideKick,® PDA or other device through an integrated SMS messaging solution.

Why Messaging is Better

A major U.S. airport recently installed the latest visual paging
